Say What? January 6, 2009 Rebecca Ramer (Valdosta, GA) Guitar Hero is a fantastic game for all ages and lots of fun to play. However, when I asked Gamestop personnel as well as read the information on this game the person I talked to said that it would work on an original Playstation 2. Not true. Nothing on the description to the game nor on the box itself said that it was only meant for the newer Playstation 2 slimlines and above. Which of course misinforms the customers trying to purchase it for a gamer. Especially when they know nothing about game systems themselves. Now I'm having to put forth money to purchase a newer playstation 2 slimline.
great entertainment January 6, 2009 C. Smith (Adrian, Michigan United States) Guitar Hero has been the only "toy" that my daughter has continually used. She received her first Guitar Hero game last Christmas and has practically worn the game out, so when I saw the great deal that Amazon had on the newest version, Guitar Hero world Tour, I knew she had to have it. Now having two guitars, she and her friends rock out all night long!!
Fixed PS2 read error December 30, 2008 C Man 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
Here's what I did to fix the same problem on my PS2 (Slim model # SCPH-70012). This should work for all models of PS2's. (Slim or Fat). Sony says all models can read a dual layer disc. If the fix doens't work then you need to send in your PS2 for service. 1) Start up the PS2 with no disc in it. 2) Highlight the 'Browser' menu and press the 'green triangle' button. 3) Highlight the 'Console' menu and press the 'green triangle' button. 4) Highlight the 'Diagnostics' menu and press the 'blue X' button and select 'ON'. 5) Press the 'red O' button to back out of this menu. 6) Highlight the 'PlaystationDrive' menu and press the 'green triangle' button. 7) Highlight the 'Disc Speed' menu and press the 'blue X' button and select 'FAST'. 8) Press the 'red O' button to back out of this menu. 9) Turn off your PS2. 10) This step is optional.......I blew into the main unit to loosen any dust out of it and then carefully used my shirt to wipe across the lens at the back of the drive. I'm not sure if this mattered or not. Since I did this in conjuction with the above steps I can't say if this is needed. 11) Insert the disc and turn the PS2 back on. The diagnostics should run and automatically adjust your PS2 to play the game. I was amazed! Mine loaded right up after several previous days of nothing. 12) I checked the settings after the initial load and the Diagnostics and Drive speed reset to normal so it must be a one time run thing. My game has loaded everytime since and I haven't had to re-do the settings at all. I hope this works for you too!!
Someone should sue Activision December 30, 2008 E. Paulino (New York, NY) 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
How is it legal for a company to sell a game for a system when they KNOW it will not work? I have no idea but it seems as if Activision's only concern was bringing in money rather than making a quality product. On Christmas day I received this as a gift, I was very excited and had been talking about the game for months. To my surprise I would never get to play it because as soon as the disc went in, the console could not read it. We tried countless times and even though the console was reading our other games, after a while it wouldn't read anything. I contacted sony and was told it would have to be replaced. I will be contacting this company asap to tell them to take responsibility for this mishap. DO NOT BUY THIS GAME unless you have a new age system. I know plenty of people who have had fun playing this game on the wii and ps3. I have returned the game and will be getting rockband instead but it is unfair that I have to find another ps2 just to play my other games. Guitar Hero World Tour ruined my Christmas.
Horrible!!! December 28, 2008 C. Pierson 2 out of 4 found this review helpful
My 9 year old son received this as a Christmas present. It was the ONLY thing he wanted and the ONLY thing he had talked about for months. When we tried to set the game up for him all it did was freeze over and over again. After searching online, I am NOW aware that this is a common problem for PS2s and this game. Funny thing is, not all PS2s have issues, just some. We have a slim, newer one. My son is so disappointed. I never thought to check out to see if the game would work before buying it. I just assumed since it was made for PS2 then it would work for PS2. It should be illegal to sell something like this.
