Great buy for $40. July 28, 2008 I bought this player for $40 from a 3rd party vendor on Amazon. I know all of the studios backed out of supporting HD DVD, but for $40, you get a great upconverting dvd player as well as the ability to play the HD DVD's available. There are a ton of sites and stores getting rid of their HD DVD's for a fraction of what Blu Ray movies are selling for.
I watched King Kong on my 720p Samsung Plasma. Quality was excellent. Now I'm buying up HD DVD's when I can - Fry's has bins of them for $10 and under.
not a useful item anymore May 29, 2008 1 out of 7 found this review helpful
well since the hd-dvd's have died off now this item is useless, maybe it will be worth something 20 years from now?
A steal for the price! May 28, 2008 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
Yes, HD-dvd is dead and bluray has won, but the funny thing is that I had never even considered buying the add on until the format died. At $50 the player is a steal. I bought it to spare my internal drive from the wear of playing regular dvds since my xbox is my primary dvd player. The media remote and King Kong were an added bonus.
Sure there won't be any future releases on the format, but with all of the hd-dvd fire sales going on, you can pick up some great hd movies for bargain bin prices. You can also get the combo discs with both the hd-dvd and standard dvd content for less than the regular dvd too! I plan on switching to bluray when the prices come down, but until then this and cheap combo discs will be able to wet my hd appetite.
works great, too bad they no longer make movies for it May 27, 2008 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
It works great, unfortunatley I didn't know when i bought it that HD dvds were no longer being made, now the only movies i can by are the ones that have already come out, to get new releases you have to get blue ray
Good while it lasted... May 20, 2008 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
Just like the title states, it was good while it lasted. RIP HD-DVD. You will be missed.
