Great option - buy Microsoft, not generic July 2, 2008 This is an excellent product, works very well with my Samsung 226BW 22" LCD monitor.
Do not buy a generic cable from another manufacturer. The generic cables are cheaper partly because the cables they use are cheaper. This can lead to an effect sometimes called "ghosting" where "ghosts" of images appear next to the true image. I had a generic cable and could see very easily on the text that there were three or four shadows of the text. The Microsoft VGA cable cleared the ghosts up entirely, leaving me with a wonderfully clear image.
The quality from the cable is great. However, until Microsoft releases an update that has resolutions like 1680x1050 (typical 22" widescreen monitor resolution), you will have to deal with either slight stretching of the image or a few pixels being cut off. Or, if your monitor has 1-to-1 pixel mapping, you will have small black bars on the edges of the screen. To me, the stretching is barely noticeable (I also don't have an HDTV with which to compare). You can change the resolutions so that it's very close; but it is an important point to consider.
PROS: Use with monitor; high quality; analog and digital audio CONS: No resolutions that support 16:10 monitors; stretching or pixel loss if your monitor does not support 1-to-1 pixel mapping
Microsoft has done gamers with limited space and budgets a great favor. The cable and image are top-notch; the only reason I take away one star is because of the lack of perfectly compatible resolutions
Great Cable June 18, 2008 This cable is a great solution if you are getting annoyed with pixelation on Non-HDTV's. It works great with my 19" Acer because it has dual inputs, so my computer is hooked to one and the 360 in the other and easily switched between the two using the menu. Picture looks great as long as you set the settings on the 360 correctly. NO washing out problems.
MUST HAVE FOR HD!!! June 10, 2008 These cables can upscale/upconvert SD-DVD's (normal DVD's) to 1080p!! They are great for TV's that work as a monitor as well. I used to have to switch the slot taken up by the 360 component cables on my TV with the Wii component cables, but now, because I have the VGA cables, which take up a different slot, I can now play Wii and 360 without switching the slot!
Pros: -Amazing graphical difference and smoothness factor when compared to component or composite cables. -Upconverting/Upscaling SD-DVD's to 1080p is possible with these cables. -The cables' physical quality is outstanding (very, very thick outer protection and very durable). -Item comes with all necessary items: Cables, and especially the adaptors.
Cons: -NONE!!!
Work great! June 8, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I wanted these because they not only out-put through VGA which can match my Vizio's 37" native rez of 1366X768, but becuase they also have TOSLINK optical audio out. That way I get true Dolby Digital 5.1 for all my games with my home theater system.
Ever since the Spring '07 Xbox 360 dashboard update, VGA cables are no longer plagued by the "Washed out" issue everyone complains about.
The update added the ability to change the "reference levels" to three different settings, which really means changing the black contrast levels the 360 is outputting. (the expanded setting being recommended for LCD's) And I got to tell you the 360 looks great, I prefer these over Component cables. (Which also only have analog audio L+R, not fiber optic audio.)
The biggest other difference you will notice is that when using component cables, a good portion of the image is cropped off of the edges. The VGA cables dont do this.
The cable has been available since the 360's launch, and has been readily available. June 2, 2008 The Xbox 360 VGA HD AV Cable has a DV-15S VGA connector and stereo audio cables, plus a SPDIF port for connection to a Dolby Digital receiver, similar to the high definition Xbox 360 Component HD AV Cable. The VGA cable is rather thick, but not so thick as to be inflexible. The left and right RCA audio jacks are of adequate thickness, but not Monster standard. The entire cable is 8 feet long and has a rubbery matte-gray texture along its entire length. The SCART plug is of course trapezoid shaped and will only connect in one direction, so there is no fear of attaching the plug incorrectly.
Overall if you have any form of display with a VGA input, the Xbox 360 VGA HD AV Cable should be your first choice for image quality.
