Iomega 250GB Portable Hard Drive November 18, 2008 Iomega Portable Hard Drive [#33962, FireWire 400/USB 2.0] working very well so far. Remember you "lose" 18GB for setup. So really you have 232GB available for use. All hard drives are the same for setup loss...this Iomega is no different. Don't sweat the 5400RPM... remember the disk is only 2&1/2inches. The first couple uses the unit ran super hot! I called Iomega Tech and they said it's normal...as a matter of fact the more I used the unit the less hot[cooler] it became. Mine came formatted with FAT32...so you'll have to reformat the disk for NTFS. In my case [I have WinXP SP-3], I went to the disk manager [diskmgmt.msc] and reformatted the disk. A word to the wise on reformatting... disconnect from the INTERNET & exit all other active programs before starting the format process. Use cables provided by Iomega if possible [If you talk to Iomega Tech, they will ask you this] Oh yes, I use a pie cooler rack to put my unit on while it's in use...then the unit is about 3/8inch higher with good air circulation underneath. Based on my experience with this unit I purchased another one but 500GB this time.
Works with both Mac and PC November 14, 2008 I purchased the Iomega 250 GB hard drive to save photos on. I switch back and forth between my pc and Mac daily. It works fine... the only problem I am having is that on the pc I have to have both the power cord and USB cord plugged in. It will not run without the power cord. The Mac Firewire works perfect and no need to plug in the power cord.
It does get warm, but cools off quickly when unplugged. Not an issue for me.
iomega NOT mac compatible November 8, 2008 Just bought the IOMEGA 33962 FIREWIRE 400 USB2.0 250 GB PORTABLE hard drive. Had my office mgr try to install for an hour , then she did a 30 min on-line chat with support for this product We were told the MAC was not compatible, and to the return the hard drive for a full refund, including shipping. My Mac is a 1.5 Ghz G4 NOTEBOOK which is 3 yrs old. Never had a bit of trouble with it. We installed the IOMEGA on my sons PC and it did fine, but would not come up in the MAC. The info says this product IS compatible but I would not get it, MAC USERS...
I'm happy with it! October 31, 2008 Just wanted to say I got one of these to use with my Macbook Pro 17, and it works flawlessly! I would recommend it for sure. It was plug and play, good thing cuz I just got the MAC and still trying to figure it out.... I'm a happy camper being PC free, and having 450GB hard drive (200 on MAC and 250 GB backup). Life just doesn't get any better!!!
Iomega hard drive October 28, 2008 Great product, you need a 6pin to 6pin which I could not find that info anywhere so don't do what i did and buy the wrong cable.
