Worked fine for 7 months, then broke January 5, 2009 shawbridge (Massachuestts, USA) I will be sending it back as it is under warranty after I get the data off the drive (if I can).
Early Failure December 26, 2008 Stanley Stone (Massachusetts, USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Bought this drive late last summer (2008) for my daughter. She brought it home from college in December, after it had failed. It is definitely the drive (not the enclosure or power supply). It looks like Iomega got a bad batch of Seagate drives. A disk drive is a really bad thing to fail--I would definitely recommend against buying this model, though it is impossible to tell if you will get a good or bad one. The risk of getting a bad unit is not worth the hassle.
Tons 'O Space, Not Much Cost December 26, 2008 Addison Dewitt (out there, in the dark) So far, so good... I am a little cautious, however, as I see by other reviewers here that this might crash on me or might not. Still, this is a ton of space and since I work with images and video and sound, I need it as a storage/back-up unit. Only bad thing so far is the obnoxious bright blue light. Lights up the whole room at night... where's my little paint brush and black paint...?
Mine crashed after 9 months December 17, 2008 E. Boger Not sniping. Just saying there is a risk here. I've had no problem with my Maxtors or my OWCs. I run Apple OSX 10.5. No idea if my data is recoverable yet. I'm probably not going to replace the old with with another Iomega. When it was working it was quiet and cool. Wish I didn't have to post this.
Big, Cheap, and Fast November 22, 2008 Ultimate Ordnance (Burlington, Texas USA) I use this for working with multiple big SQL server databases and it works very well. The LED is bright, so I used a hole punch to cut a little circle out of black electrical tape and stuck it over the LED. Problem solved! Other than that, it is perfect.
