Editorial Reviews:

Amazon.com Product Description
With its completely renewed design and double-stitched vinyl cover, the white Playseats Evolution gaming seat puts you smack dab in the middle of your favorite racing game. The seat works with almost all racing peripherals on the market and every game console, including the Xbox 360, GameCube, PlayStation2, PCs, and more. More importantly, the chair is notably comfortable while delivering the most realistic racing simulation around.

Details include a reinforced steel tubular construction that adds stability and eliminates excess wobble, a non-flammable seat material, and an easy-to-assemble design. Just install a game steering wheel, such as the latest Logitech model, on the middle pole and attach a couple of pedals along the bottom (all sold separately). The setup is also easily adaptable, with multiple adjustment knobs letting you move the wheel and pedals closer or farther, depending on your height. Appropriate for ages 8 and older, the Evolution seat is the perfect accessory for gamers who want to boost their lap times in style.

Product Description
Introducing the PlaySeat Evolution, the next level in gaming furniture comfort and design. Racing games will never be the same again. Complete with a fully adjustable leg-friendly framework to accommodate racers of many sizes, reinforced steel tubular construction for extra stability and a tougher, more durable fabric for extended wear and tear, along with more cushioning for added comfort. Seat folds down and framework disassembles for easy storage when not in use. PlaySeat is compatible with most steering wheel and pedal sets across all platforms. Gearshift holder, steering wheel and pedals not included.

4 out of 5 stars Great way to clean up your PC desk!   December 26, 2008
Sheldon Goobie (California)
I have been sim-racing for a while now with everything mounted to my computer desk. And my biggest peeve was the fact that it was a hassle removing everything when I was done racing, so I would leave everything on my desk and work around it. This wasn't very comfortable and I needed to find a solution. Well This Seat is really great it allows me to have everything setup and I can simply pull it away from the computer desk when I'm done racing.

The build on this is very impressive, its very sturdy steel and will handle just about any abusive driving situation that you will throw at it. It came with all the hardware needed to attach the G25 to the base plates which only adds to the sturdiness of the whole setup. I am 6'2 and was able to find a comfortable driving position with the amount of adjustments this seat allows.

My only problem was with the optional gear shift attachment as it doesn't have a vertical height adjustment feature and I find it sits a little low and will take some getting used to.

Overall this is a great addition to any sim racers setup and I highly recommend it!!

5 out of 5 stars Too much to write!   December 25, 2008

There's a whole list of good things I can say about this chair, too many to write. If you're considering and can overcome the price, go for it!

It's solid as a rock. The chair is comfortable. There are just the right amount of adjustments. It's great.

I highly recommend the shifter attachment and the Logitech G25 racing wheel. If you're a racer, this is for you!

4 out of 5 stars Subtle but significant difference compared to Playseat Classic   December 25, 2008

Most of the other reviewers have covered almost everything there is to say about this seat.

I want to point out a subtle yet significant difference between the Evolution and Classic.

In the Classic the foot rest comes BEFORE the steering wheel support structure. In the Evolution the foot rest comes AFTER the structure. This has some significant advantages and disadvantages:

1. The new placement of the steering wheel support structure in the Evolution makes it more stable and also more adjustable.

2. However the new placement of the structure BEFORE the footplate poses some problems with your legs reaching the foot pedals especially when you want to use the foot pedals in the style that most are accustomed to using in their everyday car (ie right foot operates both gas and brake). This is because the steering wheel support bar rises between your legs and therefore becomes a partial obstruction. So in order to make this work you need to shift the pedal as far right as possible, but unfortunately the foot plate doesn't quite go far enough, and as a result you need to use velco and/or twist ties to properly secure the pedals.

Issue 2 is not a problem in the Classic because your legs are completely unobstructed. However the Classic does suffer from stability issues, both because they use smaller metal frames and because of this arching steering wheel support design.

Also Issue 2 is not a problem if you are used to an autoracing style of foot pedal control- ie left foot for brake and right foot for gas.

Overall it is sturdy and well made seat.

4 out of 5 stars Well worth it   December 6, 2008

If you want to improve your racing game, this is it. Its as close to real racing as you can get. I've raced cars for the last 20 years, and this is as close to a real racing seat as you can get for a game system.
Cheap at the price listed and well worth it.

5 out of 5 stars A must have for the G25   December 3, 2008
Thomas E. Berrigan (Boston, MA)
Awesome seat, a must have if you already own a g25. Sturdy, solid, and well built. Have had no issues with vibrations as others have stated, just be sure to tighten everything really good and you will be all set. My favorite part is how easily it comes apart after playing. You can detach the entire front section and be left with just the chair alone, which was a huge selling point for me as I did not want a racing cockpit taking up space in my living room. Also, if you race using a standard transmission, you will want to grab the gearshift holder too because there is nowhere to mount it onto the seat itself.
