Sony announces price drop of PS3.

Sony Corporation announced Friday that it will be dropping the price of it's PS3 from the original market price to 410 dollars due to concerns, as Sony President Ken Kutaragi stated at the Tokyo Game Show, that the price reduction came as a result of concerns among potential customers that the price was too high and that Microsoft would be marketing an HD-DVD player for it's X-Box 360 game console to compete with the Blu-Ray system the PS3 sports. The basic model of the PS3, which would have originally cost 515 dollars, has been lowered while the price of the model that had a 60 GB hard drive as opposed to it's little brother's 20 GB would be left to the retail chains themselves to determine. This decision, as it places it's lesser priced console on a footing with the basic version of the X-Box 360, could allow Sony a way to catch up and compete with Nintendo's Wii and Microsoft's X-Box 360. Sony also announced that there would be no reduction in prices for the PS3 outside the Japanese and American markets. Nintendo, however, announced that the Wii will ship on time and at a price below either of it's rival's consoles. The struggle is heating up and, whatever else will happen, it appears that this will be the most exciting holiday shopping season ever. Stay tuned, folks, and get the popcorn ready.
