S2 Games sidesteps retailers

Independent video games developer, S2 Games, will be is exploring a new way to distribute their latest title, Savage 2: A Tortured Soul, avoiding retail markets completely.

The new game will only be available as a download from the company?s website. By doing so, S2 will be able to save costs on packaging, shipping and the retailer?s cut of profits. S2 hopes people will see that this method benefits both game producers and consumers.

“If the game was sold through retail stores, we would be forced to set a higher price point like the other triple-A titles out there,” said Marc DeForest, co-founder and lead designer, S2 Games. “By circumventing traditional publishing methods, we’re able to pass the savings directly on to the consumer as well as have much greater artistic license with our game.”

The development team at S2 also claims that this method provides them with the luxury of working within their own timeline and not having to rush to meet publisher and distributor deadlines.

Savage 2: A Tortured Soul will be available this Fall at the price of $29.99. For more information on the game, visit http://savage2.s2games.com
