Microsoft?s XBL beefs up

In an effort to help all of those Core System owners take advantage of Xbox Live’s growing librabry of online games, and to help bring a wider variety of games to us with hard drives, Microsoft is tripling the size limit for the games on XBL from 50 MB to 150MB. This comes on the heels of Microsoft launching a new 512MB memory unit for the 360, up from the 64MB memory cards.

This new size limit is sure to peak the interest of developers which should find a nice balance in flexibility and still being accessible to the large audience on XBL. Xbox LIVE Arcade product manager Chris Early explained, "If you take a look at current games like 'Roboblitz' and 'Small Arms,' it's clear that our developers deliver amazing game experiences within a compact size limit. Our focus is on continuing to provide developers with an environment that allows for the creation of cost-efficient games and that nurtures an artistic and creative approach to game development."

The 512MB memory unit will be available on April 3rd for $49.99 in America when it launches and the 64MB version will drop from $39.99 to $29.99. If you’ve already decided on getting one, please note that for a limited time the 512MB unit will also come with a full copy of the wildly popular Geometry Wars: Retro Evolved. Core owners, welcome to the party!
