Kingston 8GB MicroSD Card Review

Just like how I stated in my Kingston 4GB MicroSD card review, technology demands faster and more powerful features while shrinking in physical size.  This 8GB unit is basically the same that 4GB version, but with a couple major differences.

First and foremost is storage space.  It is hard to believe that 8 gigabytes of storage space can be held on such a tiny disk (no bigger than the length of a chapstick cap).  Doubled in size from its 4GB predecessor, this 8GB unit offers a huge amount of storage capacity in a very tiny space.

It is important to note this unit compatibility.  This 8GB version is compatible with microSDHC host devices.  Using microSDHC technology guarantees a minimum data transfer rate of 4MB/sec.  This constantly ensures optimum performance from both your device and memory card.  So make sure your potential electronic device supports microSDHC before buying this card.

Just like the Kingston MicroSD cards before it, this miniature card can be used as a standard SD card through the use of the full-size SDHC card adapter.  This adds versatility to the unit, allowing the user to use the card as necessary.

The second biggest difference with this unit is price.  The 8GB version will cost just under $60.  Back in October of 2007, the 4GB model sold for about $90.  In one year’s time, the storage size has doubled and the price has dropped by a third.  Considering this fact, and the amount of storage space in 8GB, the $60 doesn’t really seem too steep.

Kingston backs this unit with a lifetime warranty and 24/7 technical support.  This warranty fact alone displays Kingston’s commitment and dedication to their products.

Just like all other MicroSD cards, pulling out the tiny sized card can be tricky when inserted into the full-size adapter.  But besides this minor difficulty, there is no reason to not like this product.  Thumbs up.  Visit the Kingston website for more information.
