Galactic Civilizations II: Dark Avatar is the expansion pack for Stardock's award-winning hit strategy game, Galactic Civilizations II: Dread Lords. This expansion pack not only adds the usual content that expansion packs tend to do such as new opponents, new units and a new campaign. It also greatly expands the game play of Galactic Civilizations II. New features include asteroid belts on the map that can be mined for resources, unique planets that require special technologies to colonize, spies to conduct sabotage and destabilization (or used to protect your worlds from the same), the Epic Generator, new types of diplomatic treaties, an enhanced artificial intelligence engine, and much more!
Galactic Civilizations II is one of the best selling PC games at retail of 2006. Even with its popularity at most retail stores, the game is also available via digital download via TotalGaming.net. Nearly half the revenue generated from the game has been through digital distribution. The game, like all games on TotalGaming.net, has no CD copy protection. A recent poll on TotalGaming.net asked if not having copy protection influenced their purpose. Over half the respondents (on a poll that received over 3,000 responses from registered customers) answered that not having CD copy protection was a factor in purchasing the game. As a result, Stardock intends to make Dark Avatar available exclusively via digital distribution.
