Does anyone still play these games?
They're among the first 4X style games I played as a kid and they were amazingly fun. Think something along the lines of Civilization except across multiple star systems instead of countries. Units were customizable with research going in to their weapons and defenses which made for a unique experience when it came to battles.
It was no longer strictly about numerical superiority; tactics were important too.
