I'm very disappointed that the World Cup went to a bunch of melodramatic actors.

But in reality I'm more disappointed in the behaviour and judgement of a few frenchmen.

They knew it would go to PK's, why the Huh-Yell did they take Henry out? And Zidane's decorum lacked a certain un-dickishness. I'd really like to know what that Italian player said to make him switch gears so fast like that!

In other news... who follows MLS? Toronto's getting an expansion team next year (our stadium is currently under construction).
 
I don't know what's really going on, but I'm just happy I saw the most exciting part of the World Cup--the sudden death shoot-out.

It was kind of cool when they cut to Rome after Italy won and you saw people going nuts, waving flags and lighting stuff. Then they cut over to Boston and I was kind of confused as to why they did that...

Zinedine Zidane, what an awesome name. I also like the name Rigery. That's why I was going for France. Plus Zidane is electric out there.
 
uhm. well my official title is Lead QMRP which stands for Qualified Mental Retardation Professional. It's an old crufty term that we don't really use that much...usually referring to ourselves as Case Managers as it usually makes more sense and sounds less degrading to ourselves or the people we serve.

I work at a developmental training (DT) site for adults with developmental disabilities (mental retardation, cerebral palsy, autism, etc.). mostly the clients i work with are diagnosed as having axis II diagnoses of severe or profound mental retardation. these are the individuals you rarely see out in public, many confined to wheelchairs for life, many without any ability to care for themselves whatsoever, many without communication skills.

i used to be a direct care worker, spending time habilitating, teaching, helping these individuals. now i am stuck behind a desk and my main focus is keeping charts in order, writing new programs for teaching life skills and redicrecting inappropriate behaviors. i analyze all data i receive regarding the programs and determine what course to take next. and i keep the books up to state regulations -- which is, sadly, mostly what my job is about. because we all owe the government our thanks for the piddly grant money which pays our salaries.

lately i have experienced what is known as compassion burn-out. i no longer really care about the clients the way i used to, as i am just a small unoiled wheel in a vast machine of paper-shuffling. i rarely have opportunity or need to see the clients yet manage to get my paper work done at the last minute if i put my mind to it. therefore i spend a fair amount of time simply surfing the web, trying to escape work while i'm here.

i plan to change careers completely soon.
 
Ah. That sounds interesting. I don't think I'd have the patience to do what you did (or what you do). Good for you.

It's totally understandable to want a career change if you've been relagated to a paper-shuffling job. I refer to myself as a process monkey (I'm an editor for a legal publisher, and very little editing happens here, it's mostly just shoveling content into the next step in the publication process).

I plan to change careers as well, shortly after my wedding, hopefully by the end of the calendar year. Wanna go into business together? :)
 
sure. i need full benefits though.

while i've longed to be part of the game design industry for as long as i can remember, i don't think i'll be pursuing that anymore. it's just too depressing realizing that i don't have anything even close to what it takes and the possibility of failure keeps me from accomplishing those skills.

i think i'm going to try to get into web design. there will always be a future in that, and it's not as "elite" as game design.

what kind of career shift are you aiming towards?
 
Cool. I'll download that pretty soon and give it a test drive. Try out Game Maker and play some of the demo games you can download if you get the time and we can talk comparisons.

I believe it is basil. He somehow changed his user name and kept all his stats and stuff. I'm guessing you can do that with enough mygamer points or something.
 
Yeah, the headbutt was awesome. I have been reenacting it everyday at work, numerous times, on various unsuspecting clientel and coworkers alike. I am not sure I hate Italy, but I was pulling for France. Henry is the man.

I am not sure how much of it will be useful though SS. Most of it involves cowering before Katie in fear. Though one day I may scrounge up the courage to throw off my shackles and Zidane her.
