Looking at the GBA, it really capitalized Tactical RPGs. Tactics Ogre, FFTA, Onimusha Tactics, Fire Emblem, Harvest Moon, Advance Wars and so on. Aside from the sporadic interjection from Nippon Ichi, the GBA almost monopolized the Tactical RPG genre. Well, looking forward, I see the 2d genre becoming nearly a DS/PSP monopoly. Thus far, Guilty Gear, Street FIghter, King of Fighters, Dark Stalkers have/will have at least one PSP installment. Other notables are Mortal Kombat and DBZ Shin Budokai. So I ask you people. Do you predict PSP to become a must-own for fighting game fans?

...maybe. A lot of those games have recent console counterparts, Darkstalkers being the notable exception (f you ever want to get some Darkstalkers action going on stop over and I'll hook up the Saturn with the import copy of Darkstalkers III). As I've said in relation to the PSP before, why spend $50 on a handheld version of a console game you already have? 2D fighter fans (all what, four of them) will get those games on the consoles. I honestly would enjoy the games better on a console, though I don't know about fans of the genre.

It won't be a reason to buy a PSP for these people, but it will be a nice bonus.

Well, there are no Street Fighters over the horizon in America. There are no Guilty Gears on the consoles planned for America (X2 #Slash is out in Japan. Nothing for America). Dark Stalkers.....ya bastard, I want it. King of Fighters, while Neowave and 94 Rebout are inbound, there's no news on KOF 04/05 coming out stateside. For the games that are only mildly popular in America that are easily ported to a PSP, it may end up overtaking the Xbox (which gets all current 2d fighters), especially since online gaming is becoming so popular for fighting games on the big black box, wi-fi may become the easier, cheaper alternative.

I think there is definately room for more fighting games on handhelds (you ever play SNK Vs Capcom - Match Of The Millenium on Neo Geo Pocket Color? That game rocks!)
But in concern with the PSP, the D-pad kinda sucks for fighting and the nub just doesnt really get the job done.

Oh....yeah, if you're an arcade stick user then the PSP definitely wouldn't hold appeal for you. I'm not to big on them. I got one for the PS2, and tried out KOF on it and just though....."nah". I didn't have access to an arcade often, so I never got a chance to get used to it. Though, there is a new thing that lets you play a PSP on a TV, and some third party making a stick for the PSP isn't out of the question.

i'm really excited about 2d fighters on psp mostly for the online play. i'm sick of constantly whooping on people that don't even know how to do the standard 'fireball motion'. online play has a lot of potential

i want to buy an xbox so that i can play mvc2 online(can you still get xbox live on the original xbox?)

i heard capcom made some kind of special controller thingy specifically for streetfighter alpha3, which makes me think the controls might suck and they're trying to compensate for it.

i'm gonna go out and buy streetfighter alpha 3 tommorow(if it's out) and then run around like a madman, trying to find a wireless hotspot

MvC2 isn't online. And yes you can (still play XBL), but you still need a broadband. The most popular fighting games are (in my experience) Street Fighter Anniversary Collection and Dead or Alive Ultimate (DOAU moreso). While the least popular are Capcom vs. SNK 2 and Guilty Gear X2 #Reload (though, for GGX2, it isn't too difficult to find a match).

The Xbox controller isn't too bad for 2d fighters, though I do often have trouble doing half circles that go in the opposite direction at the end (like Sol's Tyrant Wave/Ky's Ride the Lightning, or Ryo's Shinkuu Haoh-Ken) but it, as a whole, can get the job done with some practice. Though, if you want to get some snazzy controllers, there's a few I'd recommend. Like....

As for a hotspot, GT goes to his local McDonald's, I think, and I've heard coffee shops are big on free wi-fi, so I'd check there first.

There was a port of Street Fighter 2 made on the original b&w Gameboy. It was just like Street Fighter 2 the World Warrior on SNES. It did feature a 2 player link Vs mode, but what made this game unique, is that you can actually play two players using the Super GameBoy (the device that plugs into your SNES that lets you play GB games on your TV, just like the GameBoy Player for GC). You just use 2 regular SNES controllers and the game detects the Super GameBoy when you first boot it up. This was one of the very few games to support 2 players on the Super GameBoy.

....ok that is my gaming fact for today.
