Do you ever bother with Home?

I logged in the other day to see they're stopping the updates of the PS3 Home feature, which got me wondering if anybody ever actually uses it.

There always seem to be loads of avatars around the place, and there are plenty of fun ideas (like the Harry Potter sections!), but the experience for me is a jerky and frustrating one. My internet connection is decent enough, but the time it takes to load, or download new sections, just destroys it for me.

What is the point of Home? Is it actually fun?

I've used HOME plenty of times. Which is my I hate the fact that it's going offline in March. The good news is something similar is hitting the PS4 soon though.

But HOME is good if people actually use it for what it is. I met many gamer friends from it. The only reason I have any platinums is because of the people I got to know from HOME.

I don't go on it anymore. Most of the things in there requires you to pay which is ridiculous. It doesn't seem to have any free exclusive content. There is pool and bowling but almost every time I have went, it was full.

I used it twice and I didn't understand the point of it. It was a huge waste of time for me.

No, I don't think I ever much used the Home part. Normally, when it comes to that sort of thing, I go immediately to the PSN store and find what I'm looking for. I like it because it's quicker than going the Home route and much less of a hassle in the long run.

I was very curious about it when it first came out but by the time I bought a PS3 it was already nonexistent. I think the idea behind it was a noble effort but they just probably missed a few major details on what would actually make it useful. It certainly looks fun but I think many just weren't feeling too up for putting in that much effort into something so minor.

I remember when the PS3 was launched and everybody made a big fuss about this Home thing and the connectivity offered, but I realised when I posted this thread that it's never actually come out of Beta. Maybe the PS4 version will make more sense.

TBH, I don't use any of the socialising things on my consoles. I've dipped into MiiVerse a couple of times, which can be fun, but as a reader rather than a contributor.

I have not attempted to use it since it came out. I was pretty hyped when they first showed it at GDC one year, but the actual end product just wasn't that fun. I'm sure a lot has changed since then, but I remember my biggest complaint, at the time, was the amount of loading there was. With something like Home, everything needs to be instant. When I launch Home from the XMB, I should instantly be put into it and there shouldn't be loading to go to new areas.

I do think the idea has potential, and maybe with VR getting more popular, it could be more fun if it supported VR, but I think it was a bit ahead of it's time.

I also felt the gameplay was a bit 'stiff' for me. I would have much preferred if it played more like littlebigplanet or something. It would have been a lot more fun to be a bunch of sackboys running around. Sure it would still be walking and running around, but being able to jump gracefully, and interact more with the world around you would be fun. Home should feel more like a playground where there are cool little things you can mess around with. I think they made it far too formal and rigid for my taste.
