By: Zachary Gasiorowski

Today, Nintendo announced that the price of their Nintendo DS handheld gaming system will drop in price to $129.99. This is a twenty-dollar price break from the previous $149.99 price tag since the system?s launch. The new price point will be effective on August 21st 2005.

This price drop is set to coincide with the highly anticipated release of Advance Wars DS and Nintendogs. The new price also applies to both the Platinum and Electric Blue colored models.

Reggie Fils-Aime, Nintendo of America?s executive vice president of sales and marketing stated, ?Consumers know Nintendo offers the best in the hand-held video game industry, and this news should make them very happy.?

However, because of this new price point, the DS will no longer be offered with a free copy of Super Mario 64 DS. Also, this price drop is for the North America market only. Japan?s price of 15,000 yen and Europe?s 149.99 euros will still remain intact. If there was ever a reason to buy the DS, now is the time. The Nintendo DS is also backwards compatible with GameBoy Advance games.
