Boom Boom Rocket

Boom Boom Rocket is Bizarre's second Xbox Live Arcade game, after the critically acclaimed Geometry Wars: Retro Evolved. Published by Electronic Arts, BBR is a rhythm music game in which you can orchestrate your own fireworks display in time to music. The game was created by a dedicated team at Bizarre, made up mostly of our shared technology Audio Team, as well as a dedicated artist and two graphics programmers (including Stephen Cakebread of GW fame).

Playing is easy: there are four different coloured firework types which correspond to each of the four face buttons on the Xbox 360 controller: red, yellow, blue, and green. Simply hit the correct coloured button as the firework passes over the trigger line. The fireworks get faster and more complex in later songs, meaning that you should limber up your fingers before attempting a game of Boom Boom Rocket!

For every firework you correctly explode, your multiplier bar will fill. When the bar is full, you can activate your Bonus Run (pull either trigger on your 360 controller). This will increase your multiplier to a massive 16x for a limited time, meaning big scores if you use it correctly! However, if you miss any fireworks during your bonus run you'll find that it expires much quicker than normal… don't bow to the pressure!

There are 10 music tracks in Boom Boom Rocket, all familiar classical tracks remixed by Ian Livingstone with a more contemporary feel to them. Each track can be played on three difficulty levels, ranging from easy (for kids and beginners) right through to hard (for hardcore gamers with lightning bolts for fingers). In addition to standard mode you can also play each track in Endurance mode. This means that the song loops around to the beginning again, getting faster and faster with each lap. You must keep a cool head as the BPM increases; miss too many and the game is over!

You can also play split-screen head-to-head in BBR, with two players on the same Xbox 360 console. In standard mode or endurance, the multiplayer is always fiendish between two evenly matched players. Likewise you can use the multiple Xbox Live Leaderboards to compare your scores against the rest of the world, and see how you match up against the world's best.
